Hi, my name is Maartje. I graduated from the Master Operations Research at the RuG at the beginning of 2015, and started to work in the Solutions team of Districon. With Districon Solutions, we use the AIMMS software to solve all kinds of supply-chain questions; from production planning to network optimization.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing volleyball. For any sport, it is a big challenge to create the training schedule. Everyone has a preference for a day or a time, trainers cannot give training and train themselves at the same time, and of course it would be nice if everyone can participate at a second training at about the same level as their own training. To solve this puzzle, I created a small AIMMS model which optimizes the schedule. In the summer of 2017 it is used for the first time!
I like to think about solving optimization problems, which fits the Districon motto ‘Mastering Flow’ well. I think it is important to find a company which suits you, and where you can do the work you are passionate about. I don’t have much experience in applying for jobs myself, but I do have some tips from my experience with interviewing job applicants at Districon. When you are applying for a job, it is important to prepare yourself well. Investigate what the company does and what the job implies. Prepare questions, this is a good way to show that you know what the job is about. Know yourself, think about what you would like to achieve within the company. And last but not least, make use of your network. Having a cup of coffee with a connection might be the first step to your dream job.
Good luck finding a job! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
